TOUR OF NORTH ISLAND.

Setting out to see if it were possible for the every-day person to start on a 14 days' holiday in a 10 home-power v Rovftr. car, at a cost of approximately * J £5, the cost to include benzine, oil and all running expenses, Mr. P. J. Williams, accompanied, by an official A. A.4observer, Mr. A. J. Dotchiii, in ten days covered 1577 miles at a total cost of £4 17/6; Leaving Wellington on March 19, tliey 'motored to Auckland, via New Plymouth, proceeding through Whanga-: rci and Whangaroa to Kaitaia and on to the Ninety-Mile Beach. The return journey wag made through Broadwood, Dargaville, Auckland, Rotorua, Napier and on"to Wellington. ' ' An average of 34 miles to the gallon was obtained' on the journey, the highest point reached being 40 miles to the gallon. Three pints of oil were consumed and in the total expense was included a ferry fare at Auckland, and. the cost of draining and refilling the engine with oil. The test was supervised by the Auck-. land Automobile Association and: the bonnet of the car was sealed throughout the whole trip. The motorists reached' Wellington with 1/2 in their :ekets and five pints of benzine in the' vunk, leaving them with 2/6 out of the original'£s.
