SUSPECT IN CUSTODY.

EXCITING NEWTON ARREST.

STRUGGLE WITH DETECTIVES.

Shortly after 9 o'clock this morning an arrest under exciting circumstances was effected in Karangahape Road, Newton, when Detectives Moore .and Hayes took into custody a suspect in connection with the recent series of housebreaking offences in the Epsom district.

The two detectives were sitting in a small motor caAwaiting for the man to come along. 'When he appeared, walking on the footpath, they both left the car and accosted him. The man struggled violently and called out loudly for assistance. A large crowd quickly gathered. The man was soon subdued and taken to the lock-up in the car. He was found in possession of a valuable opal and diamond ring and a stop-watch. He? will appear at the Police Court to-morrow morning.
