WILKINS' VENTURE.

AMERICAN PESSIMISTIC.

NEW YORK, March 25

A message from Lowell, Massachusetts, states that Commander MacMillan, who expects soon to entertain Sir Hubert at his home at Cape Cod, describes the contemplated expedition in the Nautilus as the most hazardous task ever attempted by an Arctic explorer. He characterised the trip as virtually impossible.

Commander MacMillan said he felt that the submarine could reach the North Pole only by chance because of the lack of navigation points while submerged. He expressed the belief that the vessel, if it were caught in the ice would have no chance of escape.
