MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.
BIRKENHEAD MAYORALTY. ME. McPHAIL TO STAND AGAIN. The Mayor of Birkenhead, Mr. J. P. McPhail, last evening consented to seek re-election. This decision was made following a unanimous request from the members of the borough council. The deputy-May or,. Mr. G. B. Hewson, said Mr. McPhail would be hard to replace. Mr. H. A. Campbell endorsed these remarks, and intimated he would be a candidate for re-election as councillor. Mr. McPhail said the expenditure of i the loan money had revolutionised the J appearance of the borough, and this and other works carried out had made such a difference to Birkenhead that an oldtime resident would not now 'be able to recognise the place. Mr. W. B. Darlow said it was not his intention to contest a seat for the council. Other members undertook to give the matter early consideration. I
