LOCAL BODIES.
BIRKENHEAD COUNCIL. The Birkenhead Borough Council meit last evening. The Mayor, Mr. J. P. McPhail, presided, and Councillors G. B. Hewson, Kerruish, W. B. Darlow, R. R. Hayman, H. A. Campbell, A. G. Jasper, W. H. Payne and F. Morris were also present. Croquet Lawn for Birkdale. —It was decided to accede to the representations of the Birkdale Tennis Club that a croquet lawn should be formed on the site at the back of the new tennis court in the John G. Kay Park, adjacent to the Birkenhead reservoir. The work will form part of the unemployment -relief scheme. Unemployed Relief.—The Mayor stated that 124 men were now engaged on unemployed relief works at Birkenhead, and £836 had been expended under scheme No. 5. Residential Roll. —The town clerk stated that the names on the residential roll numbered 723, an increase of 20 compared with the former compilation. Auckland Museum. —Mr. Jackson Kerruish was nominated by the council for a seat on the council of the Auckland Institute and Museum, at the election of three local body representatives next month. The Birkenhead contribution to the museum for the'ensuing year is £80.
