KUMEU RATEPAYERS.
"RIVER BOARD PROPOSAL
COUNTY COUNCIL EXPENDITURE
| A meeting of Kumeu district ratepayers j was held in the public hall on Tuesday. Mr. Lambden presided over a good attendance of members. The main business for discussion was the proposed Kaipara River Board. The chairman stated that most of the member's of the Kumeu Riding had signed a petition objecting to their inclusion in the area, and since the petition had been lodged the Minister of Internal Affairs had gazetted the proposed river board, and objections from ratepayers would' be received by him on or before April 11. Mr. Lambden strongly urged those who had not signed the petition to make their objections immediately. Mr. L. Kerr-Taylor, Kumeu Riding member, considered that the proposal, if sanctioned, would add to the rates of the settlers, and that ( the bulk of those included in the area were not contiguous to the river, and could not possibly derive benefit from it. A number of questions re • roading matters were answered by Mr. KerrTaylor, who stated that 52 local men under the unemployment scheme were now working on roads throughout the riding. It was resolved to hold a further county public meeting in Kumeu on April 25, to discuss a proposal for a substantial reduction of council expenditure in the Waitemata County.
