"CLEANSE POLITICS."

lALL-FOR-AUSTRALIA' XEAGUE

"NEW STATE" MOVEMENT.

. -(From Our Own Correspondent.) - SYDNEY, March 20. As inexorable as the rising tide is the growth of the many movements m South Wales particularly, and in othe States of the Commonwealth as we , which have for their of the political life of the Commonwealth and State. Each week the agitation for better government grown, until now it needs only the welding the ■ separate bodies into a whole _ form one o'l the strongest movements in Australia adnce federation. Country districts particularly are taking active steps to bring their case before the Government's notice. In tne Kiverina, in the south-west of New South Wales, every town has its citisefis' committee, organising district-wide meetings of protest against the neglect of the producer. Preparations are being made to hold "an informal election in the Hiverina to elect a provisional council. It is threatened that unless the Government grants the demands of the farmers the Riverina will seek recognition from the Commonwealth as a separate State, and will set up a provisional government. It pL-dged its support to aa y candidate for Parliament who place country before party. It also refused to tie up with any of the existing political leaders, and in the fhort time that the organisation has teen in existence its growth has been phenomenal. This week a special drive for members has been made in the city Streets, and the rapidity with which wizens joined up astounded even the «aders of the new movement. . Practically every third person on the streets of Sydney is wearing the badge the league. So strong has it become that an opposition force is now being by the Labour party—called tne "Labour Army"—and members of the Labour party in the New South Wales Legislative" Assembly have asked the Premier (Mr. Lang) to take stepa to • eoib the opera tion s -of
