POSTAL OFFICIAL'S THEFTS.

« GREW LIKE A SNOWBALL."

SENTENCE OF TWO YEARS' GAOL.

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. William Sydney Evans, a postal official, convicted of the theft of £595 4/10, was to-day sentenced to two years' imprisonment. It was urged that the thefts were the outcome of prisoner's family difficulties, and were mostly to repay what had already been taken, the amount so mounting up like a snowball. His Honor remarked that prisoner was a trusted servant. It was true he was of good repute, but that was probably why he was placed in the position he had occupied.
