MOTOR CYCLE NOTES.
TAKAPUNA NEXT SATURDAY.
COLEMAN TO RIDE.
SPORTS CLUB OUTINGS.
At Takapuna Racecourse next Saturday, the turf will be used by rubber tyres instead of shod hoofs. The meetinw there usually brings out all the local riders, who enjoy the opportunity of opening out their machines without danger of being '"pinched" by a traffic "cop," and a big crowd goes to see them do it. Although cinder track racing hae brought most of the first-class men into the limelight, there are etill some who, though they do not appear on the Western Springs programme, can show a pretty turn of speed on the grass. Such a one ie Percy Coleman, whose several grass track records still stand the world over. The cinder track does not appeal to him, but he is New Zealand champion on the grass and on the dirt track, his lap record at Mangere having stood practically since the openin" of that speedway. Another specialist whom Auckland rarely sees and who Avill be present is K. Ranby, of Christchurch, a confirmed collector of prizes at southern beach meetings. He ie also a cinder track star. Last season he buzzed round several of the English cinder tracks in company with their best men, and was a member of the team that visited Spain to show the folks there something more hairraising than bull-fighting. Being rather a glutton for hard work, and tough enough to stand lots of it, he will probably take advantage of hie visit to Auckland to compete at the cinder track meeting at Western Springs on Saturday night.
