OFF-SIDE RULE.

MAGISTRATE'S COMMENT.

DEATH • OF, MOTOR' CYCLIST.

~ "I would, suggest. an extineipn s of-the off/side. rule when there is a black divid:ing strip on a concrete road. It should be an offence for any'vehicle to. cross .Over when there is danger of' collision wjth an on-coming car. No, duty should be thrust oh an on-coming car to get out of I the road because of some eelfish motorist who wants to get. past. A'caf is entitled to its own share of.the road. If.there was that rule it is possible tliit ,'this death would not have tak«n : place,"

•■ i The foregoing comment was made by Mr. F. H. Levien, S.M.. at an inqueet held this morning at Otahuhu in connection with the death of James Batchelor, a motor cyclist, who was-fatally injured on the main road near Papatoetoe on February 18. The coroner found that death was due to injuries received in collision, with a motor car . driven by Ernest Ronald Flexman.

. Evidence was given that the deceased was travelling at a fairly fast rate.with hig".head. down. He evidently did not •see the motor car which; according -t6 witnesses,.was.not travelling uaduly.-3aat.
