PLENTY OF WATER.
SUPPLIES FOR CITY. BIG RESERVES IN DAMS. LAKE PUPUKE'S FALL. In spite of a long spell of dry weather there is an ample supply of water in the dams on the Waitakeres for Auckland City, and so it has not been necessary to impose restrictions this summer. The total amount of water in the dams is 1,172,000,000 gallons. During the past few weeks the consumption has been above, the average. At Nihotupu dam there are 266,000,000 gallons and at Waitakere dam 300,000,000 Gallons. The auxiliary dam above the Nihotupu dam is full, with 70,000,000 gallons. The Huia dam is also full, with 536,000,000 gallons. There has been a heavy drain on Lake Pupuke, from which the four North Shore boroughs are supplied. The Mayor of Takapiuia, Mr. J. W. Williamson, said this morning that the level of the lake had fallen fourteen feet in the last fourteen years. The origin of the lake's supply remained indefinite, but it was obvious that something would have to be done to supplement it. The suggestion of a supply from Greenhithe had been negatived. It was possible that when the Harbour Bridge was built a supply could be carried to North Shore from the city side. "North Shore's water supply is not endangered," added Mr.' Williamson, "but future needs will have to be met."
