EVOLUTION OF THE DAHLIA.

I was an interested reader of the article published in the ''Auckland Star'' of Wednesday last under the heading ''Lovely Dahlias." I agree with Mr. G. W. Wright when he says that Auckland can produce dahlias equal if not superior to those of California and Mexico, but as the grower of the champion decorative bloom "Mrs. Brown-Clayton" at the recent Auckland Horticultural Society's Show. I wonder whether the claim made on its behalf for world supremacy is not just a little too extravagant. This dahlia, while undoubtedly of rare beauty, has not been exhibited outside Auckland, and it would be interesting to have the views of some of your correspondents who have had the privileg'e of attending horticultural shows on the Continent or in the Fen Country and may be able to give a more authoritative opinion on its merits.
