METROPOLITAN GUN CLUB.
CHAMPIONSHIP SHOOT.
The Metropolitan Gun Club held an nilday open shoot at its grounds on Saturday. Ideal weather conditions prevailed, and the shooting was of a very high order. The chief event was the Auckland provincial clay bird championship, which drew 15 entries, conditions being 21 birds off 18 yards.
The prizes were a canteen of cutlery and 6 per cent of the sweepstake for first, 25 per cent for second, and 15 per cent for third. This match resulted in a tie between G. H. Brown (Metropolitan) and C. Seddon (Hamilton), who each shot the possible. They divided first and second money and shot off for the championship and the trophy. In a very exciting contest Brown won on the fifty-first bird, all first barrels. Results were :—
No. 1 Match of 7 birds, sweepstake.—E. L. Wilson (11yds), R. H. Bartley (13yds), C. Seddon (18yds), J. Milne (18yds), L. Peterson (14yds), O. Peach (15yds), G. Brown (15yds), F. Eisenhut (14yds), C. E. Hodge (18yds), J. McMullan (18yds), all shot the possible.
Auckland Provincial Championship.—G, H. Brown and C. Seddon, 21 each ; L. Peter son, J. McMullan (Kaikohe), and E. N. Barratt, 20.
Open Handicap.—L. Peterson (14yds), E. N. Barratt (13yds), L. F. Ramsey (16yds), F. E. Cox (16yds), C. E. Hodge (16yds), J. McMullan (15yds), J. Milne (13yds), F. Eisenhut (13yds), D. Ewing (14yds), F. Seccombe (14yds), all shot the possible and divided the stake. Eight others shot 14 each. There were 22 entries.
Open Handicap of 21 birds.—R. H. Bartley (12yds), D. Hyaulason (12yds), J. McMullan (17yds), D. Ewing (16yds), G. Brown (18yds), F. Kee'ne (15yds), and I. Lomas (11yds), all tied with the possible and divided the prize money. , Five Pairs Double Rise Match.—F. E. Cox (18yds), I. Lomas (11yds), and S. Morrin (11yds), shot the possible and divided the swe<>p. Box Shoot.—F. E. Cox shot all his birds and took the stake.
The best aggregates for the day were:— R. H. Bartley. CO out of 64: C. Seddon, 74—79; J. Milne, 59—04; L. Peterson, 70—79; G. Peach, 59—64; G. Brown, 92—94; F. Eisenhut, 71—79 ; C. E. Hodge, 69—74; J. McMullan, 74—79; J. C. Whitney, 59—64; F. E. Cox. 68—72; E. N. Barjfttt, 55—57; D. Ewing, 36—30; F. Seccombe, 46—51; S. Morriu, 42—10.
An outstanding feature of the competitions was the fine shooting of S. Morrin, a lad of 13 years, of Hawkc's Bay. The trophy was presented to the winner of the championship by Mr. C. H. Drysdale, who congratulated both winner and runnerup on their fine performances.
