WORLD'S RECORD.

ACTUAX RACE PERFORMANCES NEW ZEALAND AND AMERICA. - Recognition officially of Harold Logan's 4.13 2-5 as a world's race record for two miles by the Board of the New Zealand Trotting Association has been granted, but are°not these " race records " becoming just a little too common in the Dominion and too much importance being given them ? For instance, Petenvah holds the. world's "race record " for a trotter of 4.23 2-5 for .two miles, but it-is a mere nothing compared to the 4.10* put "up by Peter Manning against time about seven years ago. Peter Manning : trotted his first'mile in 2.5:|, and the last mile in' 2.5, and against time, or under any conditions, Peterwah could not trot two miles within, coo-ee of such time. To claim that a horse holds a world's race record suggests .he is something of a world beater when, in fact, he is nothing of the sort. Harold .Logan was. undoubtedly. responsible for a great performance when he paced his 4.13 2-5, but it would be stretching the imagination to believe that he is entitled to rank with the best pacers in America. For instance, Lindberg went 4.18 to get second to Harold Logan, and, omitting the latter's performance, Lindbergh could have claimed a world's " race" record. Twenty-seven years ago Dan Patch went 4.17 against time, in America, and to regard Lindbergh as being other than a fourth-rater compared to America's best could not be entertained. It would be much better if we coritented ourselves with New Zealand records, and not give a false glamour to some of our best horses.
