MILFORD SURF CLUB.
COMPETITIONS FOR LAIDLAW CUP. Members of the Milford fhirf and Life Saving ,Club competed on Milford Beach yesterday for the Laidlaw Cup for fourmen team surf work. Three teams entered. The test was to rescue the patient, a member of the team, who was previously taken out in a boat to a point 150 yds to 200 yds off-shore. Prior to the actual run-out each team did resuscitation work. The competition Is practically decided on the beltman's timeThe result was as follows:—No. 2 team, 93} points; No. 3 team, 92; No. 1 team, S3. The teams were:—No. 1; R. Double, captain ; T. Greenwood, belt; A. Bacon, line; P. White, patient. No. 2: S. Bacon, captain; F. Wells, belt; O. D. Mills, line; W. Osbahr, patient. No. 3: A. Faulkner, captain; A. .Mcßeth, belt; W. Hammon, line; T. Hurron, patient. Beltmen's Times.—No. 2 (F. Wells), lm 53 3-58; No. 3 (A. Mcßeth), 2m 4 l-ss; No. 1 (T. Greenwood), 2m 38s. The distancs was approximately 160 yds. The judge, Mr. A, Dicker, chairman of the Royal Life Saving Society, commended the teams on the excellent standard of their work, the getaway particularly being very smart, he said. Mr. E. Anderson, chairman of the Milford Club, presented the cup to Mr. S. Bacon, captain of the winning team. The officials in charge were:—Mr. A. Dicker, judge; Mr. R. Moor, recorder;
Messrs. E. Anderson and H. C. Sidford, timekeepers. The Takapuna Surf and Life Saving Club held a novelty race, in which competitors had to undress in the clubhouse, I don a bathinc costume, run about 100 yds, I and swim 200,vds to a mark boat. C. J. Sidford was first and D. McLeod second.
