RACING AT PUKEKOHE.

EAGLET'S FAILURE. NOTES OX THE RUXXIXG. Eaglet was made a solid favourite for tho Franklin Handicap, but was beaten into fourth place at the finish after having every chance. She had a good run throughout the race and was never further back than third at any stage of the journey, but weakened over the last furlong. Although beaten, Eaglet was by no means disgraced, and she will be much harder to beat over shorter distances before the current ' season ends. SUPREMACY'S FAILURE. Supremacy was backed down to a •short price in the Tuakau Flying, but his showing was a big disappointment to his supporters. He began well and displayed all his usual speed to the homo turn, but failed to run on and was in sixth place at the finish. The Chief Ruler gelding looked a trifle big when he went to tho poet, but no excuses can be made for him for he had every chance. Supremacy has grown into a solid-look-ing customer, and although he appears to have lost his former sprinting ability, it would be unwise to condemn him until he has a few more races in public. ROYAL DOULTON'S SUCCESS. After Being at the rear of the field for most of the way in the Franklin Handicap Royal Doulton raced right up to her best form over the final stages, and finishing on gamely, got up to win by a neck. This mare has raced very consistently since the holiday meetings ! and is retaining her form remarkably well for one of her sex. She is one of the best of Romeo's progeny racing at the present time and great credit is due to W. Townseud for tho excellent condition in which he produced Royal Doulton for Saturda.v's contest. This mare is due to make her next appearance at Paeroa at the end of this week and should again run prominently. i

FINISHED ON SOLIDLY. Spring Abbey finished on in great stylo in the Onewliero Handicap, in which he beat a warm favourite in King March. The Quin Abbey gelding deadheated for first place with Motere in the game race twelve months ago and, although he has had little racing this season, he is in capital condition and should be capable of winning more races. Spring Abbey is a solid customer with plenty of size, and just the type to develop Into a good hurdle racing proposition later on. HAS PLENTY OF SPEED. The Lucullus filly Waimuri displayed plenty of speed In the Waiuku Handicaa and led the field until 50 yards from the post, when Vital headed her and won by a narrow margin. Waimuri has always shown abundance of speed in her races and her winning turn may not long be delayed. She Is engaged in sprint events at the Ohinenniri meeting, where the turning track should be of great advantage to her. WHITE WING'S GOOD EFFORT. There was no fluke about White Wing's victory in the sprint race on Saturday, for she came from the tail of the field and simply out-paced the opposition over the last 100 yards. Her effort was a most impressive one, for she must have been giving the loaders fully eight lengths' start when the field turned for home and then had to make her run on the outside. W. Goscombe has the Limond mare in solid condition and she will be hard to beat in sprint races during the autumn meetings as the run I on Saturday should improve her. j
