WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.
KAIPARA. Mrs. Brott presided at a meeting of the Women's Institute held at Kaipara Flats on March 4, when two new members were enrolled. A demonstration was given by Miss Breese of crayon work on cushions. Afternoon tea was daintily served by the hostesses, Mesdames Linton and Smvthe. WAIMANA. Mrs. Savage presided over a good attendance of the Waimana Institute on Wednesday afternoon, when a demonstration of glove-making was given by Mrs. Woolfieltl. A liring-and-buy stall for federation funds did good business. A competition arranged by Mrs. P. Addison was won by Mrs. P. Wardlaw and songs by Mrs. Skuse were much appreciated. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Wylde and Watson, and Miss Wardlaw. WOODLANDS. The monthly meeting of the "Woodlands Institute was held last week in the form of a garden party Mrs. J. Armstrong's residence, "Tirimoana. Tennis, competitions, games and treasure hunts were enjoyed and a happy time was spent by all present. A very interesting demonstration of papier machc was given by Mrs. P. Clark, sccictary of the Opotiki Women's Institute. Afternoon tea and gramophone music were enjoyed on the beautiful lawns. WAIHI. A meeting of the Waihi Women s Institute was held in St. James Hall, Mrs. Gilmour presiding. The statement of accounts in connection with the recent warden fete, which realised £107 13/10 for the Mayor's Earthquake Fund, was read by Mrs. F. C. V. The president congratulated the institute on its effort, which showed the fine community spirit already existing amongst the members who now number 105. It was decided to nominate two members as candidates for the forthcoming school committee elections. Mrs. F. Haszard gave a very interesting lecture on "Books." Miss Hinchey supplied pianoforte solos, and Mrs. Dabinett, assisted by Mrs. Craig and Miss Dabinett, gave a useful demonstration of rug making from old silk stockings. A round-table conference on mottoes to be used on monthly programmes followed, and it was decided to adopt "Unity is strength" for the current month. Brisk business was done at the trading table. The hostesses for the 'day were Mesdames Gordon, Munro, Blackmore, Barber, Talbot, Croker and Hancock. Proceedings closed with votes of thanks to the president and performers and the singing of the National Anthem.
