The office boy of a small bank owed one of the clerks 3d, the clerk owed the cashier 2d, and the cashier owed the office boy 2d. One morning the office boy handed the clerk Id. find thus decreased his debt. The clerk passed the penny on to the cashier, and Uius paid half his debt. The cashier next handed it to the office boy, saying: "Now I owe you only Id." "Eight," said the office boy, and passed the penny on to the clerk, who immediately passed it back to the cashier. The cashier then placed it in the office boy's hand. The office boy next paid it again to the clerk, thus discharging his liability of 3d, and so each one paid his debt in full.
