PAPATOETOE TOWN BOARD.

The Papatoetoe Town Board met last evening, Mr. W. J. Nicholson presiding. New Cycle Track. —A scheme to forni a circular banked cycle track on the Papatoetoe Park was explained by representatives of the local cycle club. It was decided to undertake the work as an unemployment relief scheme. The cycle club and other sports bodies of the district were given permission to hold a carnival at Papatoetoe on March 28. Great South Road Maintenance.—Pollowing a conference with the representatives of the Main Highways Board, the chairman reported that a subsidy of £3 for £1 had been granted for the bituminous paving of the shoulders on the' Papatoetoe section of 70 chains of the Great South Road. Charitable Aid Relief.—The board decided to support the protest of other' local bodies against the granting of a monopoly for the supply ol provisions out of charitable aid funds to one Auckland firm. It was contended that local store- - keepers, who had given credit in necessitous cases, should have the opportunity of supplying goods when charitable aid was granted. Cemetery Site. —Consideration was givento the question of purchasing a cemetery site of 16 acres in the westfern part of the district at a cost of £800, but it was decided to defer the matter until next year's estimates are available. Unemployed Relief.—For the three weeks ending February 28, it was reported, 146' men had been employed in Papatoetoe on various road and drainage works. The amount paid in wages to the relief in that period was £316. The chairman said the schemes in Papatoetoe were progressing smoothly.
