Mr. J. Shaddock, and Mr. C. Todman, of Sydney, are staying at Hotel Ca-gen. Mr. M. Brown, of Edinburgh, and Mr. L. H. Hart, of Melbourne, are staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr. J. G. McCulloch returned to Auckland by the Ulimaroa yesterday after a nine months' trip abroad. Mr. J. T. Spears,' president of the Wellington Manufacturers' Association, returned to Wellington from Sydney yesterday. Dr. C. C. Middleton, formerly of Newcastle, arrived at Auckland by the Uli-ma-oa yesterday. He will spend a short holiday in New Zealand before leaving for England. The Right Hon. J. G. Coates, Leader of the Opposition, will be in Auckland tomorrow. He will leave for Wellington in the evening for the special session of Parliament, which will start next week. ' Mr. R. O'Connor, assistant district engineer to the Wellington City Council, has been granted three years' leave of absence. He left Wellington for London by . the Coptic yesterday to study English and foreign methods of civil engineering. Mr. D. Bruce Gilfillan, manager of the Auckland branch of the Norwich Union Fire Insurance Society, will retire on March 31. M~. D. T. A. Burt, chief clerk at the head office, Wellington, will! succeed him as manager in Auckland.
Mr. A. Shelton, chief postmaster at Palmerston North, lias retired on superannuation after 40 years' service with the Post and Telegraph Department. Mr. Shelton, who has occupied the position as chief postmaster at Palnierston North since 1929, will leave the service on March 31. He will reside in Wellington.
