TWO NEW BRIDGES.
I ■ B DANGEROUS TURNS AVOIDED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HUNTLY, this day. The two new bridges erected over the Eangiriri and the Te Onetea Streams, on the Great South Road, were officially opened by Mr. A. W. Hall, M.P. for Hauraki, on Saturday. Speeches appropriate to the occasion were delivered by Mr. Hall, Mr. W. Lee Martin, M.P., and Mr. L. Oldham, the engineer who had been in charge of the work, while Mrs. Martin cut the ribbon.
The bridges replace obsolete one-way wooden structures, which, owing to right-angle turns at the approaches, have been the scenes of frequent accidents. The one over the Rangiriri Stream is 44ft in length, and the width, including two footpaths, is 20ft. The length of the Te Onetca Stream bridge is 140 ft, and it has a width, including one footpath, of 24ft. They were erected by the Main Highways Board under its fiveyears' scheme, commenced in 1925, for the reconstruction of the Great South Road from Papakura to Hamilton.
