HYGIENE OF MAORIS.

TRANSFER OF DIRECTOR

DR. ELLISON FOR COOK ISLANDS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Sunday. The director of Maori hygiene, Dr. E. P. Ellison, will relinquish his present position in a few days and will proceed to the Cook Islands as chief medical officer, with headquarters at Rarotonga. No immediate successor to Dr. Ellison will be appointed, but it is understood that the director of public hygiene, Dr. T. McKibbin, will act as administrative head of the Maori hygiene division in addition to his present duties. The position of director of Maori hygiene has been occupied by Dr. Ellison since August, 1927. He is no stranger to the Cook Islands, as he previously spent over a year as chief medical officer there.. In that time he made two complete tours of the lower and northern Cook Islands, and furnished a most valuable report on the health and conditions of the natives.
