KNOCKED DOWN BY CAR

TWO TANEATUA FARMERS. ONE MAN KILLED. COMPANION, INJURED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) TANEATUA, this day. A fatal accident occurred at Taneatua last night, when Mr. L. Foster and Mr. J. Ferguson, two well-known farmers, were knocked down by a motor car. Mr. Foster was killed, and Mr. Ferguson suffered a dislocated ankle and minor bruises to tXe head. Both men Were on their way to tlieir homes and were about half a mile from the town, when a light car, driven by Mr. E. Mitchell, crashed into them. Mr. Foster received the fuii force of the car, and was badly cut about the head. He lived only a few minutes. He was a single man, aged about 51 years. When Mr. Mitchell, who is a%sheepfarmer, of Otangihaku, realised that an accident had occurred, he called the assistance of Mr. and Mrs. J. Moody and Mr. and Mrs. Collins. Dr. F. J. Appleby was also summoned. An inquest concerning Mr. Foster's death is to be held by the district coroner to-night.

Mr. Foster had resided in tlie district for over 25 years. He was tlie second surviving son of Mr. P. F. Foster, and was engaged at farming with his brother, Mr. J. H. Foster, at Pekatalii. Mr. Ferguson is also an old resident of the district.
