WAIPOUA FOREST.
I see that your correspondent "C.C." again raises the question of the commercial utilisation of this magnificent area. The Auckland District Council of the Institute of Horticul- 1 ture has been watching the position all along,' and would ask your correspondent to justify the assertions set out in his letter. The sylyiculturist in charge is an officer of considerable experience who is as interested as the institute in the preservation of the forest and competent to refute such assertions. The question of the removal of dead trees is one that should be proceeded with for the safety of the forest and also for the provision of funds to assist in the conservation of the area. The amount of bleeding reported would apparently not be sufficiently extensive to cause the damage feared by "C.C." N. R. W. THOMAS,
Hon. Secretary, Auckland District Council
