WELLINGTON, Monday.

A contribution of £10,000 has been made, to the Prime Minister's earthquake relief fufld by the council of the Fire, Accident and Marine Underwriters of New Zealand. The fund now totals £95,651. The Mayor of Wellington's fund; totals £27,825. The latest donations include the following: Huddart-P&rker Company, £500; G. H; Scales,' Ltd., £100; Wellington Wrestling Association, £50; Odlin Timber Company, £100; Brunton's, Ltd.,-England, £100; employees of James Smith, Ltd., £100; St. John's Presbyterian Church, £100. The Wellington Comiherclal Travellers' fund has received £200 from the proprietors of D.C.L. whisky.

HASTINGS, Monday,

.To obviate duplication of expensive ■machinery and for general convenience and economy in working and buildings, the two newspaper companies known as Tribune, Ltd., Hastings, and Dinwiddie, Walker and Company, Ltd., Napier, have agreed to merge and operate as one company. Each paper will retain its own individuality and liberty of policy, under the same editorial direction as formerly, with Mr. W. Dinwiddie controlling the morning paper, the "Hawke's Bay Herald," and Mr. W. C. Whitlock controlling the evening paper, the "Hawke's Bay Tribune."

BENEFIT CONCERT.

A benefit concert in aid of the earthquake relief fund will be given by the Puccini Musical Society, assisted by St. Benedict's choir and St. Joseph's Convent School choir, in the Town Hall on Sunday evening. The programme of sacred music, which has been arranged by Signor Costantini, will include Gounod's "Mess© Solennelle," vocal solos, duets and quartets, and instrumental items.
