WELLINGTON. A feature of the play in the senior cricket championshp competition ou Saturday was a Sterling inniugs of 196 by C. S. Dempster Rln.» ,t^,P nst Midland at the Basin Resene. Midland applied the closure when 040 were on for the loss of eight wickets Institute replied with 291 for four wickets' Dempster was batting for three and a-half hours and hit thirty fours. The only blemish was a sharp chance in the.slips at 170. .Banks and Wareham, who each scored 32 defended stubbornly, as did McLean and Cleave, who scored 14 each. J. Newman sent down 33 overs for 123 runs and two wickets. Thanks to a fine innings for 116 bv A Itonaldson, and useful contributions' by James, 51, and Browne, 36, Old Boys managed to total 284 and beat I-lutt by 46 runs on the first innings. E. Judd bowled well in taking six wickets for 92 runs off 29 overs. Kilbirnie, which declared with 406 for five Wickets, dismissed Petone for 172 and won by 234 on the first innings. Mark NichOlls 45, Spcncc 33, and Scott 24, did best for Petone. W. Christerpherson took ■four wickets for 33. with slow leg breaks. Good bowling by Aim. Harrison and Maealluni enabled University to dismiss Wellington for 166 and secure a win bv 61 runs on ihe first innings. Aim took five wickets for 56 runs. C. G. Hamilton, the ex-Christ's College colt, was top scorer for Wellington with 39. and Hollings 34. Whyte 24, and Morgan 20. shaped well, but the team has a long tail. This was Wellington's seven Mi defeat in a row. Dempster's 196 on Saturday was his twentieth contury in senior competition matches, and this places him level with W. A. Baker for the local record.

Farrow contributing 110—the afternoon's lone century. Marrickville made 270 for five wickets' against University (Wright 89). Manly made 280 against Balmain and Wavorley 196 against Paddington.
