ANNUAL MEETING.
SIR MOND HOME AGAIN
CRISTOBEI/S SURPRISE VICTORY.
GAY LAP LIFTS FLYING STAKES
Weather conditions are perfect for the Rotorua Racing Club's annual meeting which is being concluded to-day at Arawa Park. There is a good attendance and the course is in excellent order. A Double Figure Dividend. The day's racing began with the Tarawcra High-weight Handicap, for which Sub-editor was the only defection. Smithfield (£456), Master Armour
( £301) and Musquin ( £157) got most support, but a rank outsider in Crtetobel, who carried only £52, won and paid double figures. When the field had settled down Musquin, Cristobel and Wako King were racing on terms, with Smithfield and Master Armour following, and they raced along the back in that order. Crossing the top Musquin and 'Wako King were abreast and were attended by Smithfield, Cristobel and-M;:.-;'?r Armour, but turning for home Cristobel and Smithfield ran up fast am! headed Miifiqiuil, with Wako King and Master Armour next. In the run home Cristobel stayed on best and won by a length from Musquin, who beat Smithfield by three-quarters of a length. Master* Armour and Wako King were ncr-t. Close Finish in Stakes. All the acceptors went to the post in the Flying Stakes, in which Hangikalia (£262), Silene (£241) and Abbey Dream ( £230) were best backed, while the winner, Gay Lap, carried £223. Silene began best and led along the back from" Snow Lap, RaneiV'" Abbey Dream and Gay Lap, and there was little change as they roe°d across the top. Turning for home Silene was still in front with Gay Lap, Snow Lap, ' Kant>ikaha and Abbey Dream following in that order. Gay Lap took charge halfway down and got the verdict by half a length from Ransrikahn, with Abbey Dream a /■iir :i — distance away. Silene was fourth, then came Snow Lap, All Awake and Catcheni. The Hack Cup. Protomint was the only defection in the Ohinemutu Hack Cup, which proved a good betting race, the popular selections being Sub-Editor (£050), Valreina ■ (£419) and Gold Lily (£371), who were backed in that order. Gold Lily led out . of the straight from Leasehold, SubEditor and Steady Fire, with Valreina '. and Liona, who got the worst of the start, next. Leasehold and Gold Lily were on terms along the back just ahead of Sub-Editor and Valreina, with Steady - Fire and Indolent following. They ran in that order across the top' and entering ; the straight the field was bunched, where i Sub-Editor came through on the rails ] and went on to win by half a length from i Steady Fire, with Indolent one and a < half lengths away.
