WELLINGTON, this day.

No offer of a special earthquake loan has been made to the Government. This was the nature of, the reply made by the Prime Minister, the Right Hon. G. W. Forbes, when his attention was called to an Auckland report that a British syndicate had offered £5,000,000 at low interest for construction, provided all material used is British or New Zealand.
