U.S. Withdrawal from Nicaragua
Announced.

WASHINGTON, February 13,
The acceptance by President Moncada of Nicaragua. of a definite plan to substantially reduce the United States Marine forces in Nicaragua by June, and pave the way for complete withdrawal after the elections next year, was announced by the Secretary of State, Mr. H. L. Stimson. The marines to be withdrawn-in June are those on combat duty against insurgents, numbering about 800. The remaining marines will be stationed in Managua,.
The withdrawal is linked with a plan to increase by 500 the Nicaraguan National Guard, which will wage a vigorous campaign against the bandit forces. The guard will then number 2000. The \ lan covers a provision to pay for the increase in the Nicaraguan National Guard.
