As" yet no provision has been made in the survey of the financial position for any possible earthquake expenditure 011 the part of the Government, according to the Prime Minister. Mr. Forbes added that tlic earthquake would undoubtedly mean heavy additional expenditure on the part of the State, but until' more information vah available it would not bo possible to estimate what it would cost the State. He could not, therefore, indicate the State's share in the restoration work, No allowance has been made in the survey of the budgetary position for the next financial year, and: any requirements out of the Consolidated Fund 011 that account would increase the prospective shortage, and provision would be made accordingly. ■ -•'[ j
