In some cases the first crown is taken, but it is only in a few cases. The general rule is to take the first bud that appears after the middle of February. Water will be necessary and a mulching should be given to Dahlias. Those that are growing for exhibition should not allow the plants to distress themselves by heavy flowering. . Arsenate of lead, half an ounce to the.gallon, will keep caterpillars off Chrysanthemums, Dahlias, Asters, etc.
