ONLOOKER'S VIEWPOINT.
BROADSIDING. "Western Springs" writes: I read in your Wednesday broadsiding notes a suggestion that W. Kilmister would captain the New Zealand team. As a keen follower of cinder track riding since its infancy, I would like to ask the following question. The New Zealand champion at present is Alf. Mattson, of Auckland, and, of course, he will be in the team. Further, Mattson has pro.ved himself to be Kilmister's master, so who else but him should be captain?. It . looks ridiculous to place Kilmister as captain —in fact, stupid—and, further, more, it belittles the New Zealand champion. Why not let Kilmister challenge Mattson for the championship of New Zealand before these matches take place ?
