LESS LUXURIOUS TEAS.
At a meeting of a committee of ladies in • connection with the Less Luxurious Teas Club, held in the Lyceum Club yesterday morning,-it-was decided to dis- | ('and. This club was formed last year i by, a number of Auckland hostesses, who I considered it wasteful to spend'so much money on food when there was such distress m the city, and they pointed out the general betterment that would be gamed by more simple food. It was stated at the meeting yesterday that there were 45 members of the club, Who had paid a subscription of 5/ if married, and 2/(i if single. The amount of -the funds in hand at present was £11. This amount, .it was agreed, should be donated to the Mayor's earthquake relief fund. Regret was- expressed at having to disband the club owing ,to .the lack of support it had received. "Our objects were misinterpreted," said one member, "'and people thought we were trying to dictate to them what to put on their tables." It was considered, however, that to a great extent the object had been achieved, as teas now were of a much simpler nature.
