CROP FORECASTS.

BIG DECREASE IN WHEAT. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") WELLINGTON, this day. Statistics collected by the Department of Agriculture regarding cereal crops this season show an estimated production of wheal, of approximately 6,500,000 bushels, being a decrease on last season's actual yield of 739,000 bushels. Thfe oat yield is expected to be 3,540,000 bushels, showing an increase of 540,000 bushels, while barley production is estimated at 795,000 bushels, 40,000 greater than the previous harvest. Estimates are based on averages prepared for all provinces, from which it is indicated that while the average wheat yield per acre last season over the whole of the Dominion was 30.68 bushels, this harvest is expected to average 27.08, the decline being due wholly to the Canterbury average dropping to 26.21. (An estimate of the director of the Wheat Research Institute, published yesterday, suggests that the wheat yield may approach 29 bushels to the acre.
