HOSPITAL AUXILIARY.

The first meeting of the council of the -Auckland Hospital Auxiliary after the Christmas vacation was held 011 Wednesday. Owing to several of the members helping with the earthquake relief, the meeting was not as well attended as usual. Mrs. E. A. Kidd presided. A vote of sympathy was passed to the bereaved sufferers in the earthquake. Dr. '.M. Knight, Mrs. 'iE. ,J. Prendergast and Miss Basten were elected as delegates to the National Council of Women. A vote of congratulation was passed to Mrs. A. p. Campbell, Mrs. Dreavev and Miss Basten 011 being appointed justices of the peace, also to Miss Carnachan on her recent appointment as magistrate to the Children's , Court. Reports stated that the Onehunga branch had comjneneed their.usual activities, several of their!members helping with the clothing of the earthquake refugees. Thanks were expressed to the members of the staff of a city •* drapery establishment for their generous help with groceries, supplies, and also hampers of food and clothing for distribution among needy families at Christmas. Mount Eden branch had been assisting Mrs. Potter in collecting for the earthquake fund. They were having a garden fete 011 March 7 to angment their, funds for the auxiliary, fhe city sewing circle had made and given to the depot si) garments. Several concerts had been held in the different wards of the hospital, which had been organised by Mrs. Raeburn. The purchasing and distribution committee had been busy preparing several parcels of material to be made up by the members of the Women's,lnstitutes. Five hundred garments had been distributed to needy families direct from the depot. Thirtytwo families had been given food orders. Owing to the increased demand 011 resources, it has necessitated restricting the orders for one month only. Thirtynine patients were taken to their homes by the transport committee. Several pareels of clothing had been received from the institutes. A donation of £50 had been given to the auxiliary for assisting the patients in Napier Hospital, who have beeiV injured in the earthquake, and the city sewing circle were purchasing material and making garments to be sent to 'the matron of the Napier Hospital. A generous offer, of a monthly subscription to the funds was received from Miss Frost.
