A BETTER SALE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. Taken as a whole the market at Addington to-day was a brighter one, as values in all the major sections either remained firm at late rates or recorded slight increases. / Store Sheep.—A very heavy entry of. store lambs. The sale was very firm, with an advance of 1/. per head for better clasp lambs. ■ Adult sheep comprised a bigger entry than at recent markets. The sale was irregular, with the best sheep offered selling at firm values. Extra good, two-tooth Romney ewes made 14/ to 16/; good, 12/ to 13/6; medium, 10/ to 11/9;. good four-tooth Romney ewes, to 13/6; medium, to 9/6; extra good two-tooth halfbred ewes, to 12/6; good sorts, 9/ to 11/4; ordinary sorts, 6/ to 7/; medium four, six and eight-tooth halfbred ewes, to 6/2; ordinary sorts, 4/3 to 5/2; good sound-mouthed halfbred ewes, to 6/7; aged and-backward ewes, to 1/7; medium twotooth crossbred ewes, 6/7 to 9/9; ordinary four and six-tooth halfbred wethers, to 7/; small sorts, to 4/9; best rape lambs, 9/3 to 10/8; medium rape lambs, 8/ to 9/; ordinary rape lambs, 6/ to 7/; small and backward lambs, 2/ to 5/6; good wether lambs, to 7/1; good ewe lambs, 7/4 to 7/7. Fat Lambs.—An entry of 3550 head. The sale was firm at late rates. Extra prime lambs made to 17/4; prime, 15/6 to 16/6; medium, 13/6 to 15/3; light, 10/3 to 13/; store lambs, 8/6 to 10/. Fat Sheep.—An entry of 4800 head. No advance in values, but a firm sale. Prime heavy wethers made 15/ to 16/1; medium, 13/ to 15/; secondary quality, 9/ to 12/6; light, 7/ to 8/10; prime ewes, 10/6 to 11/10; medium, 8/ to 10/; light, 5/6 to 7/6; aged, 3/6 to 5/. Fat Cat/tie.—An entry of 318 head. The sale for medium and secondary beef was on a par with that of the last sale, while prime beef sold at a slight increase. Best medium-weight beef made from 27/6 to 31/6 per 1001b;. plain heavy beef, 24/ to 27/; cow beef, 20/6 to 23/; secondary, 18/ to 20/; rough, down to 15/. Fat Pigs.—The market hardened as it progressed, and values were a shade firmer. The average price for baconers was 4V6d to 5%d per lb, and for porkers, 6d to 6%d. OPOTIKI SHEEP FAIR. OPOTIKI, Wednesday. The annual sheep fair was held at the Opotiki saleyards yesterday. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., reports ■as follows: —Prices were on a par with ruling rates. Our offering was 6300 sheep, all of which were disposed of, vendors meeting the market. Prices realised were: Two-tooth ewes, 7/6 to 8/9; four-tooth ewes, 7/11 -to 9/1; sixtooth ewes, 7/ to 8/11; four to five-year ewes, 4/9 to 6/6; aged ewes, 3/6 to 5/; two-tooth wethers, to 9/9; four-tooth fat wethers, 9/3 to 10/6; six-tooth wethers, 6/6 to 9/; lambs, to 4/11; Southdown rams, to £3 3/; Romney rams, lV2gs to 2gs. . Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report:—There was a full yarding of all classes of sheep, and an especially heavy yarding of four and six-tooth wethers, but demand for this class was very limited. Prices were on a par with those obtained in other districts, and a total clearance of everything except grown wethers was effected. Quotations: Two and four-tooth ewes, to 9/4; fiveyear ewes, 3/10 to 6/1; fat ewes, to 12/; two-tooth wethers, 8/; four and six-tooth wethers, 7/ to 8/9; mixed sex lambs, 3/ to 6/2; one-shear Romney rams, £11/ to £2 2/. TAUMARUNUI EWE FAIR. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) TAUMARUNUI, Tuesday, The annual Taumarunui ewe fair was held to-day, and the yarding comprised 21,000 ewes. There was a large attendance of farmers and buyers. The sheep were all of srood Quality and well-condi-tioned. J. Gemmell, of Ongarue, topped the market, the price for his good four-year-old ewes being 11/6. The best price for two-tooth good quality ewes sold 011 account of the De Malmanehe estate was 15/1.
