MINING NEWS.

WARDEN'S COURT. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent) WAIHI, this day. An application by John Robert Harper for a claim at Wharikiraupuuga formerly known as Totara Extended, consisting of acres, granted. MOANATAIARI. - The lialf-y'early report of the directors of the Moanataiari G.M. Company states that a considerable amount of driving and rising has been done during the past six months and good dabs, as well as colours, of gold have been seen in the quartz broken. Progress has necessarily been slow, as the directors were hampered for want of money and could only employ a few hands. Subsidy has been paid by the Government to the amount of £103. This makes the contingent liability for Government subsidy £910 5/10. During the half-year £563 was paid In wages. .The total expenditure on the mine since registration now amounts to £30,811. NOKOMAI SLUICING COMPANY. At a special meeting of the Nokomai Sluicing Company the chairman, Mr. W. G. Gill, explained that shareholders had been called together to discuss proposed resolutions authorising the directors to enter into an agreemeut with the Siamese Tin Syndicate, Ltd., allowing it to enter land situated in the Nokomai Valley and held by tlio Sluicing Company for <,he purpose of prospecting for gold, conditional that if on completion o£ the proespectiug operations the syndicate states its intention to mine all op any part of the land, then it will promote and organise, either in New Zealand or in the United Kingdom; a company with a nominal capital of £300,000 divided into 300,000 ordinary shares of £1 each. Upon the incorporation of any new company, tho directors should sell and transfer all mining and water rights of the Sluicing Company, together with any plant, tools, buildings or other properties used in connection with its operations on the claims, in consideration of the issue to the Sluicing Company of 37,500 ordinary shares of £1 each in the new company credited as fully paid up, and £12,500 cash. The syndicate partly or completely to equip the claims taken over by the new company with suitable dredge, power, plant and necessary equipment. The resolutions were carried without discussion. KING SOLOMON MINES. During the past few weeks considerable J business has been done in. shares la King ; Solomon Deep Lead G.M. Co.. Gore. Telei grams have been published from time to tim« S about rich wash having been met with in a j drive put in from the bottom of the shaft ! to reach the area which had been prospected j by bores put do.wn .by Mr. G. E. D. Seale in ! past years. So confident was Mr. Seale of ; the value of the property that he has .held !on to the porperty for some years and 'refused good offers for liis holding. The I King Solomon Deep Lead mine is situated • about 40 miles outside Gore, and in past i years a lot of gold was got from surface 1 workings when the place was known as "Switzers." As far back as 1014 Mr. Seale, when Government inspector of Keystone ! drills, was boring in the vicinity. Nine years I ago ho took up work on his own account fin the district and put down other bores. , Later a company was formed, which had at i first to face many reverses, but within the llast few weeks tight wash was met with in j the drive from the main shaft. This wash lis now stated to be much richer in gold I than was expected. Forty feet further has to be driven through this wa-sli before another borehole is reached. A representative of the "Mataura Ensign" who recently visted the mine published an account in which he stated that in his presence, under the supervision of the managing director, two miner's pans were filled with wash dirt and taken to the surface, where the gold was washed out. The first pan yielded ldwt 1 2grs of gold, which was stated to be equal ito 6oz ldwt per cubic yard. Two other ' samples yielded about ldwt each. It ; scarcely requires to be pointed out that these are very high yields, and a much less value per cubic yard would pay handsomely. The shaft was sunk 186 ft, and from the bottom a drive was put* in south to reach the area tested by a borehole. This drive, with crosscut, was put in for a total length of 133 ft. The widtli of the lead is estimated at 00ft and boring has proved that it extends at least six chains. If. however, this wash was deposited by an ancient J river, then of course the lead may continue i for miles. Only development work or further boring can prove the further con tin uI ance of the lead past the last hole put down. MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS. Moanataiari. —The drive oil the reef formation south was advanced 7ft, total 69ffe from the chamber. A small break was passed i through and the reef picked up again on the other side. There was a change of country through the break and the country rock improved. The fecf is much more compact and the footwall rib shows gold freely. About 31b of good picked stone was secured in the last 3ft broken down. The gold is undoubtedly making stronger as we proceed towards the Cambria reef and we will shortly have a good block ready to open up for stoping. 1
