NEW COURSE AT TE KUITI. LOCAL TEAMS CO-OPERATE. (From Our Own Correspondent.) TE KUITI, Wednesday. It has been decided to proceed with the laying: down of an eightefen-hole golf course on -an area lying.to. the east ,ofTe . Kuiti, "acctirdlhg'.ta an' announcement made at the annual meeting' ot the.Burnsi.de Golf Club held on .Tuesday/evening last: It is intended present to, confine activities to the laying down of a nine-hole course, unless sufficient support is forthcoming, immediately, in which case the scheme in to to .will-be -with. . , "" The, scheme was first • outlined at 'a. meeting of local golfers held recently, when Messrs.'K. W.'Low and P. H.'Passau explained what; bad been done in the matter, up to that time. The country, it was' then stated, had been inspected by a professional from Hamilton in whose opinion, the locality concerned was admirably suited for a full course provided certain improvements were effected. These improvements, the meeting was given to understand, could >be carried out at a cost which could easily be withstood, seeing that .there was a large number of golfers already in Te Kuiti. It was stated also that the native owners had been interviewed and that the matter of securing the property and obtaining a tenure had been dealt with satisfactorily. At the . annual meeting of the Te Kuiti Golf Club held last week the suggestion of the formation of a full course was also endorsed, and a special committee set up from the'latter body to co-operate with any other'* committees concerned with the new proposal. At the BurnsideClub annual meeting a further special committee was formed to handle matters. The two committees will co-operate. It is to be explained in the meantime that the promoters intend to proceed with the course in so far that nine holes at least will be provided for the coming season's plav, but if sufficient funds can be made • available and sufficient support is given by the golfing fraternity-of the town, it is felf confident that an eighteen-hole course could be made ready for play even as early as the coming season. An important factor in connection with the arrangements is that it has been decided to avail of .the No. 5 unemployed scheme to carry out the work of layout. At present there are two clubs in the district.
