"TWO MUSSOLINIS."
. MOUNT EDEN AFFAIRS. RATEPAYERS ANNOYED. ADMIXISTr -~x ATTACKED. Trenchant criticism or the administration by .the present Mount Eden council was offered by indignant ratepayers at a meeting last'evening ill the Gordon Road Hall, when the proposal to form a ratepayers and householders' association combining the interests of all sections of the borough was confirmed. 1 : • "The council as it stands at present is comprised of two Mussoliiiis, and the remaining members are merely dummies," declared a resident of 44 years' standing. "I tried to wake the council up 25 years ago, but it has not improved in any way." , The of Mount Eden ratepayers in the past wag deplored by the chairman, Mr. W. Mulvihill, who said the 'proposed constitution of'the association would mean the union of the interests of all parts of the district. It was intended that the* association should take an active part, in the approaching municipal elections, and a definite policy would be formulated as quickly as possible. * > » . • The meeting unanimously approved of the formation of the association, and an executive of 15 members was "elected. In a discussion of ..the affairs of the borough", Mr. Mulvihill" said there was 110 doubt that- changes in' administration were urgently required. The couii: cil, he said, was virtually a "one-man organisation," and it was time the ratepayer showed, their resentment of highhanded legislation, which was best exemplified in the recent drainage loan. Mr. W. J. Hammill supported Mr. Mulvihill, saying that ; useless expenditure would have to fie prevented. Another speaker declared that the people of Mount Eden "must be the most easygoing in* the whole world." A thorough investigation of finance, a survey of staff and salaries, maintenance considerations, and economic drain ape work where it was necessary to public health were suggestions by Mr. Hammill for study when the association prepared election policy.
