TE TEKO-WAIOHOU ROAD.
FORMATION STARTED.
HUNDREDS OF MEN ENGAGED.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) WHAKATANE, Wednesday. The survey work In connection with the construction of the Te Teko-; Waiohou Road is nearing completion, and workmen are engaged at both ends on the formation of the road. 'The county . engineer, Mr, C. H. Breb'ner, expects to have completed the survey of the road round the Bluff within a week.. Twenty men have been put on to commence work at the To Teko end of the road, while some 80 men are engaged in forming the road from Kirikopine to Waiohou. Only preliminary pick-and shovel work is at present being done* at the Bluff. There are about 500 relief workers employed in the Rotoma sub-district, and the work being undertaken includes the widening of the Te Whaiti-Muru para Road and the improvement of the Murupaga-Galatea Road. A gang of workmen is also employed in widening the. road from Rotoiti to Okatiiia but no provision yet seems to have been made to improve the main Whaka-tane-Rotorua Road.
