CONVICTION OF CARPENTER.
, , v REMANDED FOR SENTENCE. I ~v A carpenter, Samuel Thomas Baker, was ".convicted in the' Supreme Court yesterday, before Mr. Justioe -Herdman, on a ;charge of making a declaration, in., respeet of a transaction with the State • Advances . Department which wrould have amounted to perjury if made' on oath. •Mr." Meredith, for the Crown, said put -in an application for a loan in August, 1929, and stated ill a declaration in support of the application that he wanted the house to live in .permanently with his wife and, family. The loan was granted, and the house built, but Baker did 'not live in it. The jury, in returning its verdict, atfer a short retirement, made a recommendation to mercy. Accused was remanded for sentence.
