tfOHNS TO MEET LECKIE
LIGHTWEIGHT TITLE BOUT.
Harry Johns, ex-amateur featherweight champion of New Zealand, and Hector Leckie, lightweight champion of the Dominion, will top the bill on the first programme to be staged by the Northern Boxing Association this year. They will meet in a 15-round bout at the Auckland Town Hall on Monday, January 26, and Leekie's title will be at stake. Both men are well-known throughout the Dominion, and there should be plenty of .thrills for followers of the sports, who attend the match. Johns who will be making his professional debut, has a large following among the Auckland fans, and his supporters believe that he will accomplish the unprecedented task of winning a New Zealand title in his first professional match. By winning the amateur feather-weight championship of New Zealand and the Jamieson Belt for tlvs most scientific boxer. Johns established himself as a boxer of class, and many followers of the sport have contended that he should have joined the professionals a year ago. Leckie is' a fighter of some years' experience. He is a clever boxer and possesses a punch which spells the end for any boxer who is unlucky enough to run into it, but he will need all his cleverness and punching power when he meets Johns, who is a. very fast mover. The match should appeal to the Auckland sporting public. particularly on account of John making his first appearance in the professional ranks in a bid for the-lightweight title.
