ATTRACTIVE EVENING WEAR.

Things You Should Know. \ In the evening, you :may wear anything you like. .. • You may slink in lame, or float in its gauzy folds. .. You may drape your skirt in subtle lambrequin ways. You may trail thinnest velvet, you may be young in lace, tulle and chiffon, or scintillating and sophisticated in spangles. As to skirt lengths, they are not exaggerated. For street wear, they remain, in general, as we have worn them this past summer. The afternoon length is considerably above, the ankle, and the evening length, for dancing, is to the ankles (or clears the floor). A very interesting feature of the afternoon mode is, the long light tunic, worn under a dark coat. The low-placed exaggerated flare will probably go down to history as the typical evening silhouette of this season. Beaded dresses are also a strong note of the season. Longer hair, earrings, large brooches, and the absence of necklaces are other outstanding points. In Paris a few women, who are distinctly individual in dress, are wearing evening gloves, wrinkled on the forearm, always a gracious, feminine fashion. Conceive a witty coat by a famous couturier: It is in red, white, yellowgreen, bottle-green—an odd colour combination. But conceived by a master, it creates a coat of rare charm—the fabric, in soft satin in tiny red and white check, the lining pale yellowcreen, bordered on the inside, and tied with bottle-green velvet ribbon. It is as smart, as catching, .as the latest negro melody. One of the most attractive materials for smart afternoon dresses is satin made up on the wrong side which has a dull surface. The most_ effective method of using the material is to make up the dress with inset strappings, and,the yoke of the shiny side of the satin. This is a charming contrast to the rest of the dress, which has a dull surface

Our Sketch. The illustration shows a dark brown, with a yellow spot, crepe de chine afternoon dress, with basque effect on one side of the skirt, while on the other, an inset panel points to the natural waistline. The decolletage is outlined with soft satin in a yellow shade, finishing at one side in a bow.
