CORNWELL CUP CONTEST
INTERPRETATION OF RULES
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
WELLINGTON, Friday
The Wellington Provincial Yacht and Motor Boat Association recently asked the Takapnna Boating Club, Auckland, for an interpretation of the rule regarding sails carried on the boats used by the competing crews in the Cornwell Cup contest. At its meeting last evening the association received a reply from the club giving the following interpretation:—"Each competing port brings its own sails and uses its own sails throughout the contest." This practice, it was stated, had been adopted for the past three years.
Several delegates expressed themselves as unable to reconcile the interpretation with the rule which-read as follows:— "Each competing boat to carry their own sails and spinnaker throughout the contest." There was a division of opinion- as to whether the word "their" was intended to apply to the boats or the crews, and it was finally decided to write to the Auckland yachtsman who will represent Wellington at the conference, pointing out the anomaly and instructing him that the association favoured each boat carrying the same sails throughout. This will mean that each crew a different boat and sails in each race.
