( AN EXCELLENT PUBLICATION. Undoubtedly one of the finest books on swimming in all its branches yet offered "to New Zealand enthusiasts is "Improve Your Swimming," which has just been published by Messrs. Macky, Logan, Caldwell, Ltd. By following the instructions, simply and concisely explained by Mr. W. 0. Stockley, one of the 1 Dominion's leading writers on swimming matters, and Mr. Dudley Hellmrich, chief coach to the New South Wales Amateur Swimming. Association, any learner should have little difficulty in mastering the art. In fact, novice and champion alike should find the book a means of making themselves more competent in the water. Excellent articles on the breaststroke and backstroke respectively have been contributed by Mr. H. Hardwick, supervisor of swimming to the New South Wales Education Department, and Mr. L. Ann and, the well-known Christchurch coach. Hints on water polo are also given by Mr. Annand, whil© surfing is discussed by Owen Griffiths, Australian champion, and diving by Clive Barrass, ex-Australian champion diver. The rules for diving and water polo are dealt with at length, and there is also a series of photographs and biographies of New Zealand champions, who, in their time, have made their mark in Dominion and international swimming. The book is not devoted solely to swimming, as there are some useful hints on methods of saving life and drill for surf teams. A very interesting record of natatorial performances prepared by Mr. Stockley, together with lists of world's, Australian, New Zealand and New Zealand centre records, complete the contents of a really first-class publication.
