The ' Thames Jockey Club's annual meeting was opened to-day oh the club's course at Parawai. The weatlier was fine though .windy,-and there was a good attendance. The track was hard and fast. Favourite Wins Easily. . The- meeting opened with the Tapii Handicap, for which Antares, Miss Joyce and Union were withdrawn. Leasehold (£3GS) was a good favourite with Snow Lap (£135) and Royal England (£130) also in demand. Searcher began best from Gay Idea, Laptown and Grand Talk, but crossing the top Laptown was in charge attended by Searcher, Grand Talk, Momonatui, Valley King, Gay ' 'idea and Leasehold, who was moving up. Laptown ran wide entering the straight, where Searcher and Abbey Dream were close up with Gay Idea and Leasehold next. ■In the run home Leasehold came through and won easily by two lengths from Searcher, who beat Laptown by half a "length. Abbey Dream Avas fourth, then came King Val, Gay Idea, Grand Talk and Snow Lap: A Close Finish. Liona was the only defection in the Parawai Handicap, and the public electedMiss Albyn favourite, entrusting her with. £3150; Loving Cup (£307) and Big Bertha (£283) were also well _backed, while the dead-lieaters, Snow Prince and Neil, carried £124 and £45 respectively. Wambois Avas slow to move, and Neil began best from Loving Cup and Currajong. Loving Cup took charge along the hack, followed by Currajong, Miss Albyn, Neil and Big Bertha. Crossing the top Loving Cup and Miss Albyn were on terms, with Big Bertha and_ Currajong together next, then cam.e Neil, Emancipation and Snow Prince. _ The order was the 'same into the straight, and in a desperate finish Big Bertha won by a head from Snow Prince .and Neil, who dead-heated for second place, Currajong was next, then came Lo\ing Cup, Miss Albyn and Wambois. A Good Dividend., 1 All started in the Waitakaruru Handicap with the exception of Neil. King Win (£257), Waimuri (£191) and. Valcuir (£187) carricd the bulk of the money. The winner, Polling Cljief, had only £90 invested on his number, and paid a good price. Glenison began best from Welcome Boy, Waimuri, Vital, Crown Arch, Full Measure and King Win, with Ruling Chief well back.' Glenison was still in charge, with Welcome Boy next, crossing the and turning for home the order was Glenison, Vital, Welcome Boy and Waimuri, and they were followed by King Win, with Ruling Chief coining fast on the outside. The last-named ran to the front half-way flown the. straight and went on to win. by a-length from Vital, who beat King. .Win. by'half a length. I Crown Arch was fourth, and then came Valcuir, Glenison arid Full Measure. .
