ACCIDENT IN HAYFIELD
CAMBRIDGE RESIDENT'S ESCAPE,
. (From Our Own Correspondent.) CAMBRIDGE, Monday. A fatality in a district hayfield was narrowly averted to-day, when Mr. A. E. Peppercorn, of Leamington, who was assisting a neighbour to harvest, fell from a stack to the ground, a distance of 16ft. At the time Mr. Peppercorn ■was pulling up a grab of hay when the rope broke. He sustained a badlybruised right arm and injuries to the ribs. He was taken to his home, where he is progressing favourably.
FARM LABOURER'S DEATH
FALL ' FROM HAYSTACK,
A farm labourer, Mr. Robert Hastings, aged 56, missed his footing while working on a haystack at Orini, near Taupiri, this morning, and fell, breaking his neck. The accident occurred on the farm of Mr. ,W. F. Carter. Dr. G. B. Isdale, of Huntly, was summoned, but on his arrival the man was dead. Mr. Hastings was. a married man. with , a grown-up family.'
