OBITUARY.
OLD THAMES RESIDENT. MR. THOMAS DUNBAR. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) THAMES, Monday. / The death occurred yesterday of Mr. Thomas Dunbar, a well known resident of Thames for many years, at the age of 73 years. Born at Howick, Mr. Dunbar came to Thames soon after the opening of the gold field. He conducted a hairdressing and tobacconist establishment at Grahamstown until a few years ago, when failing health compelled him to retire from business. He is survived by a widow and three married daughters, Mesdames Webster (Suva), Allen (Auckland), and Smith (Hamilton). Mr. Dunbar was an old member of the Manchester Unity Oddfellows.
MR. OTENE PAORA.
The death has occurred at the residence of his niece, Mrs. M. J. Babbington, Rewiti, of Mr. Otene Paora, of Orakei, aged 58 years. Mr. Paora, who was the third son of the late Paora Kawharu, chief of Te Taou tribe, Kaipara, was the official representative of the Ngatiwhapua tribe. He was an active worker in the Maori Methodist Church, Orakei and will be greatly missed throughout the North Auckland district, where he was always ready to assist in matters pertaining .to the welfare of the Maori people. He was also an active member of the Akarana Association. A tangi was held by members of the tribe at Rewiti, a large number of visitors being present. The body was interred in the family cemetery at Rewiti. Mr. Paora is survived by his son and daughter.
