FIGHT SHARK.

MAN ATTACKED THRICE,

LEGS AND SIDE HURT. SYDNEY, December 29. Fighting and threshing the water to save his life, James Knight, 49, florist, of Parramatta Road, Homebush, escaped death thfee times from the slashing jaws of a shark in Powell's Creek, off the Parramatta River, on Christmas Day. Three times the.,shark dashed toward him, and each time its coarse hide lacerated Knight's right side. After their Christmas dinner a party of ten bathers, including Knight, visited the creek. They had been in the water for ten minutes when Knight became separated from the rest of the bather?. Suddenly a shark's fin was seen. Before Knight could make any attempt to reach the bank, the shark raced towards him. It missed, and grazed his side, tearing all the skin from his right knee. Knight "warned the other bathers. In the immediate rush to the bank, the mud was disturbed to such an extent that the shark could not "et a clear view of his intended victim. Kicking a'nd throwing his arms about furiouslv, Knight churned the water into foam, but the shark turned again and darted at him. Knight's right leg actually kicked the shark, and its fin inflicted a. long cut on his leg. Knight continued to kick and fight. Suddenly the shark swept back again. The mud was then so thick, however, that the shark could only dart blindly in. This time it hurt Knight's side. Baffled, it cruised in a semicircle in the direction of the mouth of the creek, and Knight swam to the bank. The largest parish church in England is that of St. Nicholas, Yarmouth. It has a superficial area of 23,085 square feet, and contains more than 3000 sittings, while it is said to be capable of affording stariding room to upwards of 10,000 people.
