NUNNELEY CASKET CONTEST
WELLINGTON LADIES WIN. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Sunday. The Wellington women's tennis representatives defeated the Auckland representatives' when the match for the Kathleen Nunneley casket was resumed at Miramar yesterday. The visitors lost by S matches to 3. There was a very strong wind and at times the players had difficulty in keeping their feet. Good tennis was impossible, but on the day's play Wellington was decidedly superior, winning three out of four singles and one double, the other double being abandoned after Wellington had won the first set. Detailed results are 1 as follows, Auckland players being mentioned first:— 1 Singles.—Miss Whitelaw lost to Miss North, 3—G, I—G; Miss Knight lost to Mrs. Adams, 7—5, 4—o, 4—o; Miss Macfaiiane lost to Miss Nicholls, I—o, ~ —0; Miss Kanisay beat Mrs. Melody. o—4, 6—4. Doubles. —Misses Macfarlane and Kamsay lost to Mrs. Adams and Miss Nicholls, 3—G, 2 —o; Misses Knight, and Whitelaw v. Mrs. Melody and Miss North, abandoned after the Wellington players- had won-fthe first set, 7—5, and were leading by 4—3 in the second set. Wellington won 8 matches (139* games) to Auckland's 3 matches (07 games), one match being unfinished.
